Radiation-balanced silica fiber laser

چکیده
In optically pumped lasers, heat generated by the quantum defect causes detrimental fluctuations in output mode, frequency, and power. Common heat-mitigation techniques use bulky mechanical coolers that introduce vibrations, leading to laser frequency amplitude noise. Here, we present a radiation-balanced fiber laser, cooled anti-Stokes fluorescence (ASF). The gain medium is silica with 21-µm-diameter core doped 2.06 wt. % Y mathvariant="normal">b 3 + co-doped mathvariant="normal">A mathvariant="normal">l 2 mathvariant="normal">O F- reduce concentration quenching. was core-pumped at 1040 nm create both 1065 ASF cooling atmospheric pressure. We demonstrate maximum power of 114 mW slope efficiency 41% while maintaining near-zero average temperature change. This result could enable development lasers unprecedented coherence stability.

متن کاملDirect welding of fused silica with femtosecond fiber laser
Development of techniques for joining and welding materials on a micrometer scale is of great importance in a number of applications, including life science, sensing, optoelectronics and MEMS packaging. In this paper, methods of welding and sealing optically transparent materials using a femtosecond fiber laser (1 MHz & 1 μm) were demonstrated which overcome the limit of small area welding of o...
متن کاملQ-switched neodymium-doped Y3Al5O12-based silica fiber laser.
We present pulsed laser operation in a Nd-doped, Y3Al5O12-based silica fiber. The fiber was fabricated using the rod-in-tube technique with a Nd:YAG crystal rod as the core material and a silica tube for the cladding material. A spectroscopy study revealed that the core region had become amorphous in the process of fiber drawing. Q-switched pulsed laser operation was realized at a wavelength of...
متن کاملSilica-based fiber Raman laser at > 2.4 μm.
Raman laser generation at the long wavelength transmission edge of silica fiber is explored. Numerical simulation reveals that high efficiency 2nd Stokes Raman laser operation around 2.5 μm is feasible with highly Ge-doped silica fiber as the gain medium and pulsed 2-μm fiber laser as the pump source. Based on the spontaneous cascaded Raman amplification process, 0.30-W laser at 2.43 μm is obta...
متن کاملHigh-power ultralong-wavelength Tm-doped silica fiber laser cladding-pumped with a random distributed feedback fiber laser
We demonstrated a high-power ultralong-wavelength Tm-doped silica fiber laser operating at 2153 nm with the output power exceeding 18 W and the slope efficiency of 25.5%. A random distributed feedback fiber laser with the center wavelength of 1173 nm was employed as pump source of Tm-doped fiber laser for the first time. No amplified spontaneous emissions or parasitic oscillations were observed...
